A filly by Siphon was purchased by Bruce Headley for $190,000 to top Monday's session of the Keeneland September yearling sale. Consigned by Lakland LLC, the filly was produced from the unraced Sovereign Dancer mare Miss Represented. Keeneland reported 287 horses sold Monday for $8,272,800 for an average of $28,825. During the comparable session one year ago, 297 yearlings average $26,087 from a gross of $7,747,900. A total of 2,121 yearlings have been sold for a record $271,936,100 during the marathon auction that concludes Saturday. The cumulative average so far is $128,211, well above the $100,444 average for 2,200 sold for a total $220,977,400 at the same point of the 1999 sale. . . . Behrens and Lemon Drop Kid are gaining on Fusaichi Pegasus' earnings, but the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner still leads in that race with $1,897,000 earned this year. However, in the NTRA National Thoroughbred Poll, Lemon Drop Kid remains on top, while Fusaichi Pegasus dropped another notch to sixth. Robert Frankel took over the lead on the trainer's list a couple weeks ago and currently has $8,746,411 in earnings and a 60% in-the-money rate. Jerry Bailey tops riders with $13,180,980 earned in 206 wins and 732 starts. Pat Day isn't far behind. And among owners, Frank Stronach has more than a $1 million lead on Juddmonte Farms. Stronach ranks second among breeders behind Harry T. Mangurian Jr. . . . This Saturday Meadowlands will hold the third annual Oktoberfest. Highlights include a drawing for two tickets to Frankfurt, Germany.
