Ray Tromba, vice president and general manager of Louisiana Downs, has been appointed by the Thoroughbred Racing Associations of North America to serve on the management committee of Equibase Company, it was announced Thursday by Equibase Company chairman Alan Marzelli. Tromba fills the seat vacated upon the retirement of TRA representative John C. York II... Wyoming Downs will honor the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation on Aug. 18 when it runs a race named for the organization that provides funding for equine research. "The welfare of the horse is not something those of us in the industry take for granted," said Wyoming Downs' Dale Parker. "We understand that it is a vital matter that has to be pursued in a proactive manner. For that reason, Wyoming Downs is pleased to have the opportunity to bring the work of Grayson-Jockey Club to the attention of our fans and horsemen." Said said Edward L. Bowen, president of the foundation: "We understand that there are many elements and daily pressures to the running of a race meeting. So, we are particularly gratified that Wyoming Downs is willing to pause and turn its attention to the enhancement of mankind's ability to protect the health and safety of the horse. We hope patrons of the race track will step up with their own support---at whatever financial commitment is logical and comfortable for each individual. We love large donations, of course, but small ones count up very quickly, too."... equineline.com has unveiled a new Farm Program designed to help farms manage the business side of their operations. According to the announcement from The Jockey Club Information Systems the program is modeled after TJCIS' Windows-based Farm Management software, which is installed as a stand-alone product at more than 200 major farms worldwide.
