Bettors believe that the winner of the three Breeders' Cup races that were offered in the second wagering pool of the NTRA Future Book Bet – the Turf, the Mile and the Filly & Mare Turf – is someone they don't know about yet.
The "field" was made the favorite in all three races, which will be run as part of the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships October 26 at Arlington Park. A total of $97,784 was wagered on the three races during the three-day period that ended August 11.
In the $2 million Turf at 1 1/2 miles, the field is 4-1, while the other 23 entries ranged from 5-1 on Beat Hollow (GB) and High Chaparral (Ire) to 99-1 on Grammarian. Others garnering support were Sulamani (Ire), 10-1, Sword Dancer Invitational Winner With Anticipation, 13-1, Golan (Ire), 14-1, Sakhee, 15-1, and Hawk Wing, 19-1. A total of $38,544 was bet.
In the $1 million Mile, the field was a strong 2-1 favorite. Rock of Gibraltar, heavily supported in the first two days of wagering, fell to 7-2. Others well backed are Keltos (FR), 9-1, Volponi, 13-1, Sarafan, 16-1, and Good Journey, 19-1.
In the $1 million Filly & Mare Turf at 1 1/4 miles, the field is 5-1, followed by early favorites Asra, 6-1, and Golden Apples, 7-1. English Legend (FR) is 11-1, defending champion Banks Hill (GB) is 12-1 and next is Kazzia (Ger) at 13-1. Totla money wagered in the race was $27,296.
The next pool for the Breeders' Cup is for the Classic, the Distaff and the Sprint August 30 to September 2. The final pool is for the Juvenile and the Juvenile Fillies September 20 to 22.
