Whitney Handicap winner Left Bank (right) has reportedly undergone surgery for colic.
Michael Tabor's Left Bank, the record-setting sprinter who showed his versatility by tying a 1 1/8-mile track record in the Whitney, reportedly underwent colic surgery at Tufts University in Massachusetts on Saturday.
According to the Daily Racing Form, the Todd Pletcher-trained son of French Deputy began showing signs of colic around 6:30 a.m. (ET) Saturday morning and was vanned to Tufts later in the day.
Pletcher reportedly had not received a report on the surgery as of 5 p.m. He had requested he be notified if "something catastrophic" happened, the Form reported. "So I guess no news is good news," Pletcher said.
The trainer noted that Left Bank had 12 feet of his intestine removed when he was a 2-year-old, according to DRF.
A $1.4 million earner who has won 14 of 24 starts, Left Bank earlier this year set a Belmont Park track record of 1:20.17 while winning the Tom Fool. He then tied Saratoga's nine-furlong track record of 1:47 with his Whitney victory.
