In her first easy race in months, champion filly Xtra Heat led gate-to-wire to easily win Saturday's $125,000 Straight Deal Breeders' Cup Handicap at Laurel Park.
Xtra heat, carrying 126 pounds, covered the several furlongs in 1:23.00 under a hand ride from regular jockey Harry Vega. The winning margin was three lengths over runner-up Outstanding Info, who nipped Winter Leaf for the place.
The victory was Xtra Heat's 22nd in 29 career starts. She is trained by John Salzman, who co-owns her.
Sent off as the 1-9 favorite in the field off five, Xtra Heat paid $2.10 and $2.10. Outstanding Info returned $2.10. There was no show wagering. The $2 exacta paid $5.20.
