John Franks' homebred Clearly a Queen might be retired because of a fractured left sesamoid sustained in her victory in the Aug. 4 Eatontown Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Monmouth Park. The injury was discovered the day after the race. A decision on her retirement won't be made until tests are complete. A 5-year-old, she was scheduled to join her owner's broodmare band next season.

Clearly a Queen, who was produced from the Cryptoclearance mare Cryptoqueen, won nine of 28 starts and earned $504,523. A five-time stakes winner, she took the Matchmaker Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Monmouth a month before the Eatontown. Her sire, Lucky North, stands at Franks Farm (Southland Division) near Ocala, Fla.
