Trainer Jonathan Sheppard would be doubly happy if Hall of Fame rider Pat Day became racing's all-time leader in purse earnings. First, Sheppard considers Day a good friend, and secondly, Day has a chance break the record while piloting the Sheppard-trained With Anticipation to back-to-back wins in the $500,000 Sword Dancer Invitational Handicap (gr. IT), which will be contested Saturday at Saratoga.

After winning Monday's National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Handicap (gr. IIT) aboard Quest Star, Day has career earnings of $264,210,698 and only trails recently retired Chris McCarron by $140,980.

"I think the world of Pat Day, and just feel honored that he is riding one of my horses," Sheppard said. " It would be just great if he could break the record with With Anticipation. And from my point, it would be great to win the race."

Day, the all-time leading rider at Churchill Downs, has over 8,000 victories to credit, only Laffit Pincay, Jr. and Bill Shoemaker have more wins to their credit.

With Anticipation has won 13 of 40 career starts, including six in added-money competition. He has earned $1,557,204. Sheppard conditions the homebred With Anticipation for George Strawbridge.

With Anticipation enters the Sword Dancer off an impressive short neck victory over Denon in the July 6 United Nations Handicap (gr. IT) at Monmouth Park.

Others expected to contest the Sword Dancer (with their weights) are Denon (118), Hawkeye (118), Cetewayo (117), Startac (116), Grammarian (115), Volponi (115), Whitmore's Conn (115), Eltawaasul (114), Man From Wicklow (114), and Rhythm Band (114).
