Generous Rosi and McMahon are expected to vie for favoritism at Arlington Park Saturday when they head a field six named to the $50,000 Buckpasser Handicap.

Assigned co-high weight of 120 pounds by Arlington Park racing secretary David Bailey, the British-bred Generous Rosi, owned by Flying Column II, and the Kentucky-bred McMahon, who races for Michele Boyce Racing Inc. and Cherrywood Racing Stable, have taken vastly different routes in advance of Saturday's test for 3-year-olds and upward at 1 1/8-miles.

Generous Rosi, who traveled to the Orient to race on the Japan Cup undercard last fall, has been away from competition since finishing fifth in the $100,000 Sportsman's Park Breeders' Cup Handicap. In that last start, which was March 24, the 7-year-old was always well placed but never launched a serious bid when beaten almost 10 lengths. Before that he had finished eighth in his only other start this year on February 22 in New Orleans.

Prior to a ninth-place finish in Tokyo in a 1 5/16-miles stakes November 24, Generous Rosi was second in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. 1) October 6 at Belmont Park. Last September 8, he captured the Turfway Park Fall Championship (gr. III) in a wire-to-wire performance.

McMahon's last trip to the post came a month ago, when he finished sixth in the Cornhusker Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III) July 6 at Prairie Meadows. Previously, he had won the $100,000 Precisionist Handicap by two lengths at that Iowa oval on June 1.

Before that, the 4-year-old Salt Lake gelding was fifth in the National Jockey Club Handicap (gr. III) April 20 after winning the Sportsman's Park Breeders' Cup Handicap in March.

Generous Rosi has Robby Albarado in the irons, while Mc Mahon is ridden by Randy Meier.

Opposing those two are Mt. Joy Stable Inc.'s Just Like Jimmy, 119, Elvis Trujillo; Carmen Rorick's Saquache, 117, Chris Emigh; Mark Corrado & Mark Hanna's On Your Mark, 114, Rene Douglas; and Barr H. Inman's Apalachee Special, 113, Eddie Razo Jr. aboard.

Just Like Jimmy merits strong consideration here. At last asking he came from off the pace to finish second, beaten a length by Galic Boy in the $46,950 Bowl Game Stakes on July 7. He was also runner-up by a neck in the $90,450 Cardinal Handicap on June 22. Both those races were on the grass, but Just Like Jimmy won by 3 3/4-lengths on the main track at Churchill Downs April 28.
