Oak Tree at Santa Anita announced it will run 28 stakes during its Oct. 2 to Nov. 3 meeting.
There are eight graded races during the first week of racing, Oct. 2-6. The "Breeders' Cup Showcase" is designed to allow horses in all eight Breeders' Cup divisions to get a race under their belts prior to the Oct. 26 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Arlington Park in Chicago.
The front-loaded stakes schedule begins on Oct. 2, with the $200,000 Lady's Secret Breeders' Cup (gr.II) for fillies and mares on the main track. The weekend of Oct. 5-6 will feature seven stakes races. The Saturday card includes four graded stakes: $500,000 Yellow Ribbon Stakes (gr. IT) for fillies and mares on turf; $250,000 Oak Tree Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. II); $200,000 Ancient Title Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. I), and $200,000 Norfolk Stakes (gr. II) for 2-year-olds.
October 6 features a stakes triple-header: $500,000 Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II), $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Memorial Turf Championship (gr. IT), and $200,000 Oak Leaf Stakes (gr. II) for 2-year-old fillies.
Opening week action includes two other stakes for 2-year-olds. The $75,000 Cover Gal Stakes for fillies on Oct. 3, and the $75,000 Cavonnier Stakes for 2-year-olds on Oct. 4, are now open to all California-bred 2-year-olds. Formerly run as the California Sires Stakes, these races had been restricted to progeny of California-based sires.
The $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy Handicap (gr. III), formerly run on opening day, has been moved to Oct. 12. California Cup Day, on Nov. 2, moves into its 13th year with its series of stakes races exclusively for California-breds. With the $250,000 California Cup Classic heading the lineup, the day provides state-breds an opportunity to win $1,325,000 million.
The meet concludes on Nov. 3 with the $200,000 Las Palmas Handicap (gr. II) for fillies and mares and the $100,000 Morvich Handicap (gr. III).
