Rider Ramon Dominguez Sidelined with Fractured Wrist

Jockey Ramon Dominguez, the nation's second-leading rider this year in races won, will be out of action for at least three months after fracturing his left wrist while riding at Delaware Park July 24. Dominguez suffered the injury when 4-year-old filly Lovely Lady (Pine Bluff) fell while battling for the lead in the stretch of the 7th race that day.

Dominguez underwent surgery at Christiana Medical Center July 25. "He called this morning urging me to get another client because he'll be out for an extended period," said Steve Rushing, the jockey's agent. "I told him to worry about getting better."

Dominguez led the nation in wins in 2001 with 431, and this year only perennial leader Russell Baze was ahead of Dominguez' 217.
