Del Mar Stakes Exclusive on TVG
TVG will offer exclusive live network coverage of Saturday's $400,000 John C. Mabee/Ramona Handicap (gr. IT) and the $200,000 Bing Crosby Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) from Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. On Sunday, TVG will have exclusive coverage of the Eddie Read Handicap (gr. IT). Coverage both days will be part of TVG's "Trackside Live: Del Mar" which airs both days from 6:00-9:00 p.m. (EDT).Highlighting the action will be the expected start of the Bobby Frankel-trained Beat Hollow in the Eddie Read, a 1 1/8-miles race on the turf for 3-year-olds-and-up. Beat Hollow is coming off back-to-back grade I wins in the Woodford Reserve and the Manhattan Handicap, and is the top turf horse in training in the U.S. Challengers should include Redattore, Sarafan, and Suances.Renamed for the late John C. Mabee, former chairman of Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and a leading California horseman who passed away earlier this year, the Ramona Handicap will also be run at 1 1/8 miles on the turf, and will feature fillies and mares 3-years-old and up, headed by Golden Apples, Janet , Crazy Ensign, Eurolink Raindance, Snow Flake, and Surya. The Crosby, a six-furlong sprint on the dirt, should attract Kona Gold, going for a third straight win in the race. Kong Gold first won the Crosby in 2000, using it as a stepping-stone for victory in the Breeders' Cup Sprint and an Eclipse Award as North America's top sprinter. Other possible starters: D'wildcat, Freespool, Komax, Mellow Fellow, and Nuclear Debate.
