English Owner Lord Weinstock Dead

Lord Arnold Weinstock, who won the 200th Epsom Derby (Eng-I) with Troy and raced such other tops stars as Sun Princess and Pilsudski, died July 23 at his home following a lengthy illness, according to the Racing Post. He was 77.
Weinstock raced Troy with his father-in-law, Sir Michael Sobell. Troy used a devastating kick to win the 1979 Epsom Derby and also scored group I wins in that year's Irish Sweeps Derby, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, and Benson and Hedges Gold Cup.
Sun Princess also was a classic winner. taking the 1983 Epsom Oaks (Eng-I). Pilsudski won six grade/group I events, including the 1996 Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT).
Weinstock, who owned Ballymacoll Stud in Ireland, campaigned other top performers Ela-Mana-Mou, Spectrum, and Golan. The last-named won the 2001 Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) and placed in the Epsom and Irish Derbys.
