Milwaukee Brew, who rallied to win the Californian. tops Hollywood Gold Cup.
Including last-minute entry Dig For It, who was supplemented for $25,000 by trainer Bruce Headley, a field of seven was entered for Sunday's $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup at Hollywood Park.
Installed as t he morning line favorite was Milwaukee Brew, the Bobby Frankel trainee who has won six of 16 starts and earned $1,446,612. The 5-year-old horse seeks to become the first horse to win the Santa Anita Handicap and Hollywood Gold Cup in the same year since Affirmed in 1979. He will be ridden by Kent Desormeaux, who will be serving a five-day suspension from Friday through Thursday but is eligible to ride in three graded stakes Sunday under the designated-race rule.
The field for the Gold Cup also consists of Macaneo, who met an earlier supplemental deadline of $12,500 by trainer Roger Stein, as well as Sky Jack, Dollar Bill, Momentum, Out Of Mind.
