Longshot runners trained by David Nicholls ran one-two in the group I July Cup at Newmarket, England Thursday.

Continent, at 12-1, came running late under Darryll Holland to beat stablemate Bahamian Pirate (16-1) by a half length. Bahamian Pirate was ridden by Richard Hughes.

Favored Danehurst finished third, another 1 1/2 lengths back.

The winner is a gelding by Lake Coniston out of the Kris mare Krisia. Both Continent and Bahamian Pirate are owned by Lucayan Stud.

The race was wide open with two furlongs to run, but Holland was the first to get a jump on the far rail. Continent made the lead with Danehurst appearing to have the best chance to catch him. When he failed to quicken, Bahamian Pirate took up the chance but Continent was always able to hold him off.

Adain O'Brien's runner, Landseer, finished fourth of the 14.

Continent ran the six furlongs in 1:13.
