Street Cry, Azeri, Sprint 'Field' Favored in Future Bets

Handle on the inaugural Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships Future Bet totaled $173,844 over the holiday weekend, with Street Cry the early 4-1 favorite for the Classic, Azeri the 5-2 favorite for the Distaff, and the "field" the 9-2 betting pick in the Sprint.
Betting closed at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday after opening on Thurday, July 4. Wagers were accepted on the three races listed above, with 24 betting interests in each race, including a "field" for all other horses not named.
The Classic handled the most of the three races, with $85,919 wagered. Fans made the "field" the second choice at 6-1 in the Classic, with Macho Uno next at 8-1. War Emblem was 12-1 in the future bet.
In the Distaff, $39,732 was wagered, with the "field" at 6-1 the second choice behind division leader Azeri. In the Sprint, with $48,193 wagered, two horses -- Crafty CT and Swept Overboard -- were at 9-1 behind the "field."
The next round of future bets occurs from Aug. 9-11, when the John Deere Turf, Mile, and Filly & Mare Turf races will be covered. Then, on Aug. 30-Sept. 2, wagering again will be conducted on the Classic, Distaff, and Sprint. The final future bets will take place Sept. 20-22, when the Bessemer Trust Juvenile and the Juvenile Fillies races will be featured.
Future betting started on the Kentucky Derby in 2000 over three separate weekends. The first year, the Derby Future Wager handled $676,233 over three weekends. In 2001, the total grew to $1,309,647. This year's Derby Future Wager handled $1,503,806.Closing Odds, July 4-7 Breeders' Cup Future Bet
