Eight-year-old millionaire Affirmed Success and beaten Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I) favorite Left Bank are scheduled to square off in the July 4 Tom Fool Handicap (gr. II) at seven furlongs for 3-year-olds and up at Belmont Park. The $150,000 guaranteed race has attracted a field of six and is scheduled to go off at 4:44 p.m.

Left Bank, a French Deputy colt owned by Michael Tabor and the 121 topweight, was one of about five horses battling for the lead early in the Met Mile and suffered the consequences because of it. He has not raced since finishing fifth in the Memorial Day feature and before that took the May 11 Bold Ruler Handicap (gr. III) in his 5-year-old debut. Todd Pletcher trains the two-time grade I winner.

Affirmed Success, a son of 1978 Triple Crown winner Affirmed, also was unplaced in the Met Mile. Trained by Richard Schosberg, Affirmed Success had his final tune-up June 29 at Belmont. Under jockey Richard Migliore, he breezed five furlongs in :59 2/5. Affirmed Success, who races as a homebred for Albert Fried Jr., won the Carter (gr. I) and Toboggan Handicaps earlier this year and has a career total of three grade I wins to his credit.
