Multiple graded stakes winner Richly Blended, who started his racing career with a 103 Beyer Speed Figure, has been purchased by BnD Chase Thoroughbreds and will enter stud at Rancho San Miguel near San Miguel, Calif.
A son of Rizzi, Richly Blended won four of six races for owner Raymond Dweck and Ben Perkins Jr. A 3-year-old last year, he started out with a 15-length maiden win at 5 1/2 furlongs, then won an allowance by 7 3/4 lengths at seven furlongs. His two stakes wins came at a mile at Aqueduct. He captured the Gotham Stakes (gr. III) by 5 1/4 lengths and the Withers Stakes (gr. III) by 4 1/4. Sandwiched between those efforts was a third behind Congaree and Monarchos in the Wood Memorial Stakes (gr. II). His sole off-the-board finish came in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I), where he led for the first part of the race before sustaining a career-ending injury. He was retired last summer with $323,280 in earnings.
"A breeder can easily design a mating that would produce fast, precocious offspring that should be devastating running at distances from one inch to one mile," said New Jersey bloodstock agent Robert S. Fox, who acted on behalf of BnD Chase Thoroughbreds. The outfit is managed by president Del Chase.
Bred by Harry Mangurian Jr.'s Mockingbird Farm, Richly Blended was produced from the Valid Appeal mare Valid Blend. His fee is $4,000 live foal.
