Jockeys Johnny Murtagh and Frankie Dettori will miss the June 30 Irish Derby (Ire-I) at The Curragh after picking up whip bans in Thursday's Ascot Gold Cup (Eng-I).

Murtagh and Dettori, who rode the third-place Wareed, were judged to have used their whips with excessive frequency in the 2 1/2-mile contest and will be out of action from June 29 to July 2.

Murtagh picked up a suspension for the same offense on Royal Rebel when winning last year's Gold Cup. He again rode the 6-year-old to a repeat victory but was ruled out of a possible ride for Aidan O'Brien in the Irish classic for the second consecutive year.
