War Zone, a son of Danzig racing for Prince Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms, outraced five rivals to win Sunday's Prix de la Porte Maillot (Fr-III) at Longchamp. The Kentucky-bred colt is a half-sibling to three other stakes winners.
Olivier Peslier had the mount on War Zone and tracked the field in in fifth in the early going of the seven-furlong race. They made headway on the outside, with just over a furlong left to run, and had assumed the lead within 100 yards of the wire. The winner finished 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Cayoke. Prince Abdullah's other runner, Danger Over, finished fourth.
War Zone has been based in France since coming to that country from the U.S. as a yearling. Andre Fabre conditioned the colt to three wins in six starts last year, which included the Prix Zeddaan at Maisons-Laffitte. War Zone finished second in last year's Criterium De Maisons-Laffitte (Fr-II).
Fabre also trained Proflare, the stakes-placed dam of War Zone. The daughter of Mr. Prosepctor has produced Shuvee (gr. II) winner Apple of Kent (by Kris S.), Prix de la Cochere winner River Flare (by Riverman), and Rare Perfume (gr. II) winner True Flare (by Capote).
