A colt by Louis Quatorze topped Saturday's annual Illinois Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Foundation sale of 2-year-olds in training. Three Punch Louie, from the stakes-winning mare Two Punch Lil, was consigned by Prairie Hill Farms and purchased for $50,000 by Terry Bruner, Alan and Michael Faber, and Hector Magana. Three Punch Louie was bred in Kentucky by Dr. Charles Guiles.
Sixty-one 2-year-olds, plus two 3-year-olds, were consigned to the sale at Arlington Park. Of the 47 2-year-olds to go through the ring, 24 sold for a total of $297,600 and a $12,400 average. That resulted in a buy-back rate of 49%.
