War Emblem Returns to Track for First Time Since Belmont

War Emblem galloped 1 3/8 miles at Santa Anita Park on Tuesday, marking the Our Emblem colt's return to the track for the first time since his bid to win the Triple Crown failed in the June 8 Belmont Stakes (gr. I).

"He looked good," trainer Bob Baffert said of the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness (gr. I) winner who stumbled out of the gate badly in the Belmont and wound up eighth behind 70-1 outsider Sarava. "There are no plans for him right now, but he's fresh. We'll just wait and see how he trains over the next couple of weeks."

War Emblem left New York the morning after the Belmont and returned to Baffert's Churchill Downs stable, where the colt had been based since a majority interest was purchased by Prince Ahmed Salman's The Thoroughbred Corp. from Russell Reineman in April. Last Sunday, after a week of being walked around the shedrow, War Emblem was flown from Kentucky to Southern California.
