Graded stakes winner Weekend Madness died June 8 while delivering a Swain colt for Frank Stronach's Adena Springs. The foal is on a nurse mare. Weekend Madness' death came the same day that Gary Drake, who raced Weekend Madness as a member of New Phoenix Stable, won the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) with Sarava. Drake races the Belmont winner in partnership.Bred in Ireland by H and Y Bloodstock Company, Weekend Madness (Dance of Life--Spring Break, by Cure the Blues) was a stakes winner all three years she raced and twice set course records. She captured eight stakes, two of which were graded--the Keeneland Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. IIIT) and Saratoga Budweiser Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIIT). She also captured the latter race another time when it wasn't graded.The first of Weekend Madness' course records came in the 1993 Lieutenant Governor Stakes in 1:34.20 for a mile at Ellis Park in her first start following her arrival from Ireland. Two years later, she set a record of 1:40.39 for 1 1/16 miles at Gulfstream Park.Weekend Madness, who was stakes-placed in Ireland, closed out her racing career with 10 wins from 27 starts and earnings of $660,623. Stronach bought her in foal to Red Ransom for $150,000 at the 2000 Keeneland November breeding stock sale from Lane's End, agent. Weekend Madness aborted that offspring.Weekend Madness produced four registered foals, one of which, Folie du Soir (by Wild Again), has won.
