The catalogue for the Saratoga select yearling sale will have 228 horses, down by 3.8% from last year's total of 237. The auction will be conducted in New York Aug. 6, 7, and 8.
"Buyers will find every bit of the conformational quality and strength of pedigree they have come to expect at Saratoga," said Walter Robertson, the presdient of Fasig-Tipton, which conducts the auction. "In addition to the return of every one of our major consignors in 2001, the record sale of last year has encouraged new support, and there will be at least six new selling entities at the Spa this year."
During last year auction, records were established for gross revenue, average price, and median price. More horses than ever before brought prices of $1 million and up (nine), $500,000 and up (28), and $200,000 and up (105). The 162 yearlings sold grossed $62,410,000 and averaged $385,259. The median was $235,00.
