Agent Buzz Chace, bought Sarava and Artax Too at same sale.

Sarava was 70-1, the longest priced winner in 134 runnings of the Belmont Stakes (gr. I). That was nothing compared to the odds of buying both the Belmont winner and the race's last-place finisher...at the same sale.

"How do you like that?" bloodstock agent Buzz Chace said, laughing.

Shopping for Ernie Paragallo, Chace was the leading buyer at the 2000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic yearling sale. Among his purchases were Sarava (by Wild Again) for $190,000 and Artax Too (by Marquetry) for $220,000.

"I remember Sarava well," Chace said. "He was a small horse, but pretty well put together. He was a nice shifty type. He's the kind I like. I thought he would be nice to race or pinhook."

Paragallo pinhooked Sarava, selling him for $250,000 at the 2001 Fasig-Tipton February sale of juveniles in training. Artax Too races for Paragallo's Paraneck Stable.
