Brooklyn Tops Busy Weekend at Belmont

The grade I Belmont Stakes might be over, but the racing isn't slowing down at the Elmont, N.Y. oval, with three graded stakes scheduled for this weekend including the $250,000 Brooklyn Handicap (gr. II), the $100,000 Hill Prince Stakes (gr. IIIT), and the $100,000 Sands Point (gr. IIIT).

The 1 1/8-mile Brooklyn Handicap gets things rolling on Saturday when nine possible runners face the starter. Likely starters include: Country Be Gold (113), Dayton Flyer (112), E Dubai (118), Free of Love (115), Graeme Hall (115), Griffinite (112), Runspastum (112) and Seeking Daylight (112), with Bowman's Band (116) listed as questionable.

Jockey Jose Santos will ride Godolphin Racing's E Dubai, who will be making his seasonal debut. The 4-year-old Mr. Prospector colt has not raced since running second in the mud in the Super Derby (gr. I) in Louisiana last Sept. 23rd. Regular rider Jerry Bailey will be in Kentucky to ride another Godolphin runner, Street Cry, in the $750,000 Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) at Churchill Downs.

The Brooklyn Handicap will be shown on tape delay by CBS during its one-hour telecast beginning at 5 p.m. (EST).

Also on Saturday's card will be the Hill Prince for 3-year-olds at nine furlongs on the turf. Expected to run here are Flying Dash; Regal Sanction; Smoked Em and Van Minister, with Inesperado; and Miesque's Approval also possible.

Sunday's feature will be the Sands Point for 3-year-old fillies at nine furlongs on the turf. Affirmed Dancer; Cat Rocket; Jester Rahab; Magnificent Val; Maita; Midnite Deelite Ntombi; Nunatall; Riskaverse; She's Vested; Tarnished Lady; and Tempo West are the probable starters, with Buy the Dips still questionable.
