Mary and Gary West's Dollar Bill breezed six furlongs at Churchill Downs Sunday ahead of Saturday's $750,000 Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I). The Dallas Stewart trainee completed the work in 1:13 4/5 under exercise rider Joanne McNamara.
"We're looking good," said Stewart. "He's training well and he's had two good works since he ran last time and we're looking for a good race for him."
Last time out, Dollar Bill finished second in the 1 1/4-mile Hawthorne Gold Cup (gr. II) won by likely Stephen Foster starter Hail The Chief. In his two other starts as a 4-year-old, Dollar Bill won a Fair Grounds allowance race in which another Foster nominee – Connected – finished third and himself finished third in the Oaklawn Handicap (gr. I).
"He's trained well here and it's a $750,000 grade I and that's the kind of race want to try win with him," Stewart said. "He's just a good, solid horse. Whether or not he's as good as he's ever been, I'm not going to jump up and say that. But he trains well and he works well and he's just a nice horse."
